The verdict Trial it

Tidio is a strong live-chat and AI-support tool for small ecommerce teams, and the safest way in is the free plan. Public ratings are high across more than 4,000 reviews. The risk is not quality, it is the bill: live chat, Flows and Lyro are metered separately, and Tidio's terms promise no refund for unused time.

A compiled score, not a tested one. Public ratings average 4.65 out of 5 across 4,114 ratings, which on its own would land near 9.3. We take the rest off for a pricing structure and a refund clause that star ratings almost never capture.

How we made this estimate

Compiled in September 2026 from four public rating sources (G2, Capterra, the Shopify App Store and Trustpilot), Tidio's own pricing, terms and help pages, and published 2026 comparisons from rival vendors. We did not test Tidio ourselves, so every experiential claim below is attributed to the customers or documents it came from.

What Tidio actually is

Tidio is customer-service software for small and mid-sized online businesses. It bundles live chat and ticketing, a rule-based automation builder called Flows, and an AI agent called Lyro that answers customer questions from your own content.

The company was founded in 2013 in Szczecin, Poland by chief executive Tytus Gołas, and now runs offices in San Francisco, Warsaw and Szczecin with more than 180 staff. It has raised roughly $25M in Series B funding from PeakSpan Capital, Inovo Venture Partners and bValue.

Tidio says more than 300,000 businesses use it. Its Shopify app has been listed since July 2014, which is a long time in a category where most AI chat tools are three years old.

The ecommerce integration is the part worth naming. On Shopify, the widget syncs your catalogue, checks stock, and surfaces order history in the chat window, so both a human agent and Lyro can answer “where is my order” without opening another tab.

What the ratings actually say

Tidio scores well nearly everywhere, and the sample is large enough to trust. Across the four public platforms we counted, 4,114 ratings average 4.65 out of 5.

SourceScoreRatings countedRead
Shopify App Store4.8 / 51,341Sep 2026
Capterra4.7 / 5590Sep 2026
G24.6 / 51,959Aug 2026
Trustpilot4.0 / 5224Sep 2026

The pattern in that table matters more than the average. Where people rate the product, Tidio scores 4.6 to 4.8. Where people rate the company, which is what Trustpilot mostly collects, it drops to 4.0.

The praise is consistent across all four. Customers repeatedly describe the install as quick and possible without technical knowledge, and 86% of Shopify store owners who rated the app gave it five stars.

Where the sources disagree

Lyro's hit rate is the biggest split. Tidio markets a resolution rate of up to 67%, and only guarantees a rate at all on the Premium plan, where it commits to 50%.

Customers report both better and worse. Some store owners say Lyro closes 70% to 80% of their chat tickets, one reports around 90%, and published independent testing puts it at 60% to 70% depending on how complicated the questions get.

The honest read is that the number depends almost entirely on your question mix. A store answering shipping, sizing and order-status questions will sit at the top of that range; anything needing judgement will not.

Opinions on the AI itself also split. Plenty of customers call the automation setup easy, while others writing more recently describe the chatbot as dated and the automations as rigid next to newer AI-first rivals.

One caution on sources. The sharpest criticism of Tidio's pricing in 2026 comes from blogs run by competing chat vendors, which have an obvious interest in the conclusion. We have kept the pricing claims below to what Tidio's own pages and terms state.

What you are really paying for

Tidio's pricing page meters plans by billable conversations per month, and the free tier is more usable than most.

PlanPriceBillable conversationsLyro AI conversations
Free$050 / month50, one-time
Starter$24.17/mo billed yearly ($290/yr)100 / month50, one-time
GrowthFrom $49.17/moFrom 250 / monthBy usage tier
PlusFrom $300/mo plus usageCustomCustom
PremiumCustom quoteCustomFrom 3,000 / month

Read the Starter row twice. The $24.17 figure is $290 a year divided by twelve, and Tidio's Shopify listing prices the same plan at $29 when you pay monthly. Paying yearly is the discount, not the default.

All plans include 10 seats and a 7-day trial of every feature, which is unusually generous. Most rivals in this price band charge per seat.

The complication is that Lyro is a separate subscription. It starts at $39/mo for 50 AI conversations, drops to about $32.50/mo if paid annually, and is upgradeable in tiers up to 1,000 conversations a month.

Tidio's help documentation counts a Lyro conversation as the first AI reply in a thread. Fifteen minutes of silence followed by a new customer message starts a fresh one, so a single shopper drifting back to the tab twice can consume three of your allowance.

So the real monthly number for a small store wanting live chat plus working AI is closer to $68 than to $29, and it moves with your traffic. That is the single most useful thing to know before you sign up.

Read the refund clause first. Tidio's terms state it is not obliged to refund partial months or years, upgrades or downgrades, or unused subscription time. Refunds are discretionary and capped at three months of service. Cancelling leaves your account active until the next billing date, after which it reverts to the free plan.

What owners praise and complain about

Praised

  • Store owners across the Shopify listing and Capterra consistently describe setup as fast and non-technical.
  • Shopify order and stock data appears inside the chat, which customers cite as the reason they stay.
  • The free plan is genuinely workable at 50 conversations a month, with 10 seats included.
  • Multiple store owners report Lyro absorbing 70% to 80% of routine tickets.
  • Ratings hold up at scale: 4.6 or better on three platforms, across nearly 4,000 ratings.

Complained about

  • Live chat, Flows and Lyro are three separate meters, so the monthly total is hard to predict before you have traffic data.
  • Trustpilot customers describe being moved onto more expensive plans than they expected, and struggling to get money back.
  • The terms give Tidio no obligation to refund unused time, which turns an annual prepay into a real commitment.
  • Several customers report accounts suspended or blocked without warning, which takes their own support channel down with it.
  • Recent customers describe the chatbot builder as dated and the automations as rigid compared with AI-first rivals.
  • Lyro's per-conversation counting means a quiet shopper returning twice can cost three AI conversations.

Who it suits, and who should skip

Worth it for: Shopify or WordPress stores under roughly 250 chats a month; small teams that want ten seats without per-seat billing; anyone whose support queue is dominated by order status, shipping and stock questions, which is what Lyro handles best.

Skip it if: your volume is unpredictable and a surprise invoice would hurt; you need complex, judgement-heavy support conversations automated; you want one flat price with no usage meter; or you are not prepared to lose unused time if you cancel an annual plan early.

Three alternatives worth pricing

Intercom is the upgrade path. Its Essential plan starts around $39 per seat per month billed annually, and its Fin AI agent charges per resolution, so a three-person team running 500 AI conversations can pass $600 a month. Prefer it when your support function is a department, not a side job.

Crisp prices per workspace rather than per seat, which makes the monthly number predictable. Prefer it if the thing that worries you about Tidio is the metering rather than the features.

Chatbase is the cheap AI-only option, with a free tier and paid plans from roughly $19 to $32 a month. Prefer it if you want an AI answering agent on a knowledge base and do not need live chat, ticketing or a human inbox at all.

All three change prices often. Check the current figure on each vendor's own page before switching.

Tidio FAQ

Is Tidio free?

Yes, there is a permanent free plan covering 50 billable conversations a month, 100 Flows visitors and 10 seats, plus a one-time allowance of 50 Lyro AI conversations. Every paid plan also comes with a 7-day trial of all features.

How much does Tidio cost per month?

Starter is $290 a year, which works out at $24.17 a month, or $29 if you pay monthly. Growth starts at $49.17 a month for 250 conversations, Plus starts at $300 a month plus usage, and Premium is a custom quote. Lyro AI is billed separately from $39 a month.

What counts as a Lyro AI conversation?

Tidio's help documentation counts the first AI reply in a thread as one conversation. If the customer goes quiet for 15 minutes and then sends another message, that starts a new billable conversation.

Does Tidio give refunds?

Its terms say it is not obliged to refund partial months or years, plan changes, or unused subscription time. Refunds are issued at Tidio's discretion in exceptional cases, capped at three months of service.

Is Tidio good for Shopify stores?

It is the strongest case for the product. The Shopify app is rated 4.8 out of 5 from 1,341 ratings, and it pulls catalogue, stock and order history into the chat so agents and Lyro can answer order questions directly.

Is Tidio better than Intercom?

For a small store, usually yes on cost: Tidio includes 10 seats on every plan while Intercom bills per seat from around $39 and charges per AI resolution on top. Intercom is the better fit once you have a dedicated support team and need deeper reporting and routing.

How accurate is Lyro AI?

Tidio advertises a resolution rate of up to 67% and guarantees 50% only on its Premium plan. Store owners report anywhere from 60% to 90% in practice, with the spread driven by how routine their incoming questions are.

Bottom line

Tidio is a good product with a billing model that deserves more caution than its 4.65-star average suggests. The software earns its ratings; the invoice is where customers get caught.

Start on the free plan, watch your conversation count for a month, and only then decide whether Lyro is worth its separate subscription. Our confidence in the product scores is high given 4,114 ratings behind them, and our confidence in the pricing criticism is moderate, since much of it comes from customers on one platform and from rivals with an axe to grind.
