Our verdict
Worth comparingLumens is a good fit if you want designer lighting and furniture from names like Louis Poulsen, Flos and Artemide, backed by a written 30-day price match. Orders over $99 ship free in the contiguous US. Check each item's return status first, since open-box, clearance and light bulbs are final sale.
How we made this estimate
We compiled this review from six sources between 15 September and 22 October 2026: Lumens' own returns, pricing, FAQ and expert-service pages, Trustpilot's 189 customer reviews, ConsumerAffairs, a company profile from aspire design and home, CB Insights, and our own check of 31 Lumens offers. We did not place an order ourselves, so every experience below is attributed to the customers who reported it.
What Lumens is and what it sells
Lumens, Inc. is an online retailer of modern lighting, furniture and decor, headquartered in Sacramento, California according to CB Insights. It started in 2004 as a local showroom in Northern California. At its 20th anniversary, CEO Laura Walsh described the company as “North America's online leader in design lighting and furnishings” in a profile by aspire design and home.
That same profile credits Lumens with helping bring European heritage brands such as Flos, B&B Italia, Louis Poulsen and Audo Copenhagen to North American buyers. The designer focus still shapes the store: brands with live promotions during our September check included Marset, Tom Dixon, Louis Poulsen, Artemide, GUBI, Fritz Hansen and Minka Aire.
The catalog goes well past lamps. It covers chandeliers, pendants, recessed and track lighting, sconces and bath lights, ceiling fans (including smart and wet-rated outdoor models), landscape and path lighting, plus furniture for the living room, dining room, bedroom, office and patio.
Prices sit at the designer end of the market. In mid-September, Lumens' own pages listed a Kuzco Barclay semi-flushmount at $118, a Crystorama Xavier chandelier at $648 to $798 and an Ingo Maurer Lampampe table lamp at $1,514.
What customers and the press say
Public feedback on Lumens is thinner than you might expect for a store this established, and it is not uniform. Here is what each source reports.
| Source | What it reports | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | 1.5 out of 5 from 189 reviews, 66 of them in the past year. Lumens replied to 98% of negative reviews, usually within a week. | October 2026 |
| ConsumerAffairs | Lists easy-to-reach customer service, high-end brands and a large variety as strengths; notes premium prices and no international shipping. | October 2026 |
| Lumens Expert Service page | Says all sales staff are ALA certified, many with over 10 years of lighting experience, and cites a 98% satisfaction score from its own customer surveys. | October 2026 |
| aspire design and home | Twenty-year profile: from a Northern California showroom to an online design retailer and early importer of Flos and Louis Poulsen. | September 2024 |
| Coupon trackers (DontPayFull, SimplyCodes, ID.me Shop) | Regular brand-level promotions of 15% to 40%, a welcome offer for new subscribers and a trade discount. | September 2026 |
On Trustpilot, the positive reviews mention the fixture selection, quick delivery on some orders and friendly help with exchanges. The less happy reviews centre on order delays, items arriving damaged or incomplete, and slow replies while a problem was being sorted out.
That pattern is useful mainly as planning information. It tells you to leave slack in a renovation timeline and to inspect deliveries promptly, both covered in the tips further down.
Where the sources disagree
Customer service is the clearest split. ConsumerAffairs lists easy-to-reach service as a strength and Lumens reports a 98% satisfaction score from its own surveys, while most Trustpilot customers describe slow or automated replies on orders that went wrong.
Two details help read that gap. Review sites tend to collect more posts from customers who had a problem, and 189 reviews is a small sample for a 20-year-old retailer. Lumens also notes in its Trustpilot replies that some negative reviews are meant for “Lumen”, a company it says is unaffiliated.
What you're really paying for
Lumens is not a discount store, so the value comes from its policies and rotating promotions rather than low list prices. Three things matter most.
The Low-Price Guarantee. Per Lumens' pricing page, if you find the exact same product advertised for less within 30 days of your purchase, Lumens will match it. The comparison counts shipping and sales tax, the other seller must be an authorized dealer following manufacturer pricing rules, and the item must be a stock item. Clearance, closeout and returned items are excluded.
Free shipping. Ground shipping by UPS or FedEx is free on orders of $99 or more within the contiguous US, and orders under $99 pay a flat $14.99. Freight items, items with a shipping surcharge, and orders to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or Canada are priced at checkout, and multi-item orders may ship separately.
Current offers. These were live or had no stated end date when we last checked. Exact codes appear in our coupon listings, not in this review.

| Open Box Sale, up to 75% off | Flexible buyers after a specific design | Inspected returns; final sale, no other promotions apply |

Lumens' pricing page adds that promotions exclude certain brands, open-box, clearance and light bulbs, and cannot be combined with other offers or past orders.
Shipping, returns and warranty explained
The Lumens return policy allows most products to come back within 30 days for a refund if they are new, uninstalled and in their original packaging. You request the return from the order-status page, print the label and drop the box at a UPS store.
Return shipping is deducted from your refund, expedited shipping on the original order is non-refundable, and the refund is issued after the item is inspected. Returns totalling more than $5,000 may carry a restocking fee, and Lumens may issue store credit in some cases.
Several categories cannot be returned at all: installed or assembled items, made-to-order or custom pieces, light bulbs, opened bedding, products with unwrapped crystals, quantities of six or more of the same product, and Lumens Annex, open-box or clearance stock. Products marked non-returnable on their page are also final.
Defective items should be reported within 30 days of delivery; Lumens says it then covers shipping both ways for the replacement. Most products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and Lumens' FAQ says its service team will either fix the issue or connect you with the maker. Optional Extend protection plans can cover failures after that warranty ends.

Who Lumens suits best
A good fit if you:
- Want a specific designer fixture or furniture piece from brands like Louis Poulsen, Flos, Artemide or Tom Dixon.
- Work in the trade and can use the 20% professional discount and tax-exempt purchasing.
- Like the safety net of a written price match on expensive items.
- Are shopping ceiling fans or outdoor and landscape lighting from established makers like Minka Aire and Hinkley.
Worth comparing alternatives if you:
- Mainly need budget fixtures in quantity, where designer pricing adds little.
- Live outside the US and Canada.
- Need guaranteed delivery by a fixed date with no room for delay.
Alternatives worth comparing
- YLighting carries a similar modern designer lighting range, so it is a natural place to compare the price of the exact same fixture before you claim a price match.
- Design Within Reach suits furniture-led shoppers who want to see pieces in a physical studio before buying.
- Lamps Plus fits buyers who care more about budget and a broad mid-priced range than about European designer names.

Bottom line
Compiled from six sources, Lumens earns 6.7 out of 10. Its strengths are the ones that count most on a design purchase: 20 years in business, a deep catalog of names like Louis Poulsen, Flos and Artemide, and written pricing policies, including a 30-day price match, that protect you on expensive pieces. Delivery and support experiences vary between customers, but the precautions are simple: inspect boxes on arrival and check an item's return status before ordering. Our confidence is moderate, because the score rests on public policies and customer reports rather than an order of our own.
If you are after a specific designer fixture and want a written price match behind it, Lumens is a sound place to buy it. For a first purchase, the strongest current offer is the welcome discount for new subscribers on orders of $500 or more.
