iMobie is a good fit if you want a free scan before you pay. Its transfer tools, AnyTrans and AnyDroid, earn the steadiest praise; data recovery results vary by device. Buy a yearly or one-time licence rather than a monthly one, because only those carry the 60-day money-back window.
How we made this estimate
We compiled this from nine named sources dated between December 2023 and October 2026: iMobie's own store, refund-policy, education and FocuSee pricing pages, read on 11 October 2026; 1,500 Trustpilot ratings and 74 SmartCustomer ratings; and three published hands-on tests, from TheSweetBits, TechJury and DataRescueTools. We did not use the software ourselves, so every experiential claim below is attributed to the source that made it.
What iMobie actually sells
iMobie Inc. has shipped mobile utilities since 2011, a date its own homepage carries in the copyright line. The catalogue runs to more than fifteen desktop programs for Windows and Mac, grouped on its site as Unlock & Recovery, Transfer, Multimedia and Utilities.
The product names matter more than the company name, because most people arrive searching for one of them. AnyUnlock and DroidKit remove screen passcodes, Apple ID locks, MDM profiles and Android FRP locks. PhoneRescue recovers deleted data on iOS and Android, AnyFix repairs iOS system faults, and PhoneClean and MacClean reclaim storage.
Transfer is the other half of the range. AnyTrans and AnyDroid manage and move data on iPhone and Android, PhoneTrans copies a whole phone onto a new one, and AppTrans moves apps across.
A newer multimedia line sits alongside both: FocuSee and Screenify for screen recording, AnyEnhancer for AI video upscaling, Wipit for removing objects from photos and video, Vozard for real-time voice changing, and AnyMiro for 4K phone mirroring. The store runs in twelve languages, among them French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Dutch, Turkish, Russian and Traditional Chinese.
Where every source agrees
Three points recur in everything we read. Every product has a real free trial that installs, scans a device and previews what it found before any payment, which iMobie's own store page states as “try before you buy with a free trial”.
Second, the yearly subscriptions and the one-time purchases carry a 60-day money-back guarantee, stamped on each of those tiers. Third, the software is easy to drive: TechJury scored ease of use 5 out of 5, and TheSweetBits reported stable performance with no crashes across extended use on both Mac and Windows.
| Source | What it reports | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot, iMobie Inc. | 3.3 / 5 from 1,500 ratings. 49% five-star, 34% one-star, 3% three-star | Read Oct 2026 |
| SmartCustomer, formerly Sitejabber | 2.6 / 5 from 74 ratings. 31% five-star, 66% one-star | Read Oct 2026 |
| Trustpilot, separate AnyTrans listing | 2.5 / 5 from 29 ratings | Read Oct 2026 |
| TheSweetBits, AnyTrans, hands-on | Fills a gap Apple's own tools leave open; stable across months of use on Mac and Windows | Updated 15 Jul 2026 |
| TechJury, PhoneRescue, hands-on | Ease of use 5/5, support 3.5/5. Contacts recovered in under a minute on a Galaxy A50 | Updated 10 Sep 2024 |
| DataRescueTools, PhoneRescue, hands-on | Recovered 2 of 6 deleted items in a 3-hour-30-minute iPhone scan | 20 Dec 2023 |
Where the sources pull apart
The disagreement is not really about opinion. It tracks which product and which platform the tester was using.
On transfer and device management the record is consistent. TheSweetBits ran AnyTrans through several iPhone upgrades and Android-to-iPhone migrations, and rated its selective migration and file-by-file access to local backups as things Apple's own tools do not offer. Its two reservations were that Finder still handles a plain backup perfectly well, and that the price is harder to justify if you move data once a year.
Data recovery is where the results diverge. Adrian Try at DataRescueTools deleted six items on his own 256 GB iPhone, ran PhoneRescue for Mac, and recovered two of them, a contact and an Apple note, after a scan lasting three and a half hours. He noted that five rival apps scanned the same phone in roughly an hour.
Dejan Cvetnarevic at TechJury had a smoother run on Android, pulling a full contact list into a spreadsheet in under a minute, with a 5 GB audio scan finishing in exactly thirty minutes. Neither test is wrong. Recovery outcomes depend on the device, how long ago the data was deleted, and whether an Android phone is rooted.
One scope limit is worth knowing before you buy. DataRescueTools found that third-party messaging apps, WhatsApp included, are outside PhoneRescue's reach on iOS, although WhatsApp recovery is supported on the Android edition.
Customer ratings split along the same line. iMobie Inc. holds 3.3 out of 5 across 1,500 Trustpilot ratings, and that average hides a barbell: 49% are five-star, 34% are one-star, and only 3% sit in the middle. SmartCustomer, the platform that now hosts Sitejabber's review pages, shows 2.6 out of 5 from 74 ratings with the same shape.
Read together, those distributions describe fit rather than quality. Buyers who got the exact result they came for give top marks, and buyers whose device or data type turned out not to be covered give bottom marks. iMobie replies to 95% of its negative Trustpilot reviews, usually inside a week.
What you actually pay
We recorded the prices below from iMobie's own store on 11 October 2026. Every tier showed a markdown against a higher list price, which is the store's normal state rather than a limited event, so treat the left-hand figure as a reference point and the right-hand one as what you pay.
| Product | Plan | List | Store price | Covers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PhoneRescue for iOS | One-time | $99.99 | $69.99 | Unlimited devices, 1 computer |
| PhoneRescue for Android | 1 year | $129.99 | $65.99 | 10 devices, 1 computer |
| AnyUnlock, Unlock Screen | One-time | $119.99 | $59.99 | 5 devices, 1 computer |
| AnyUnlock, Unlock Apple ID | One-time | $119.99 | $55.99 | 5 devices, 1 computer |
| AnyUnlock, Bypass MDM | 1 year | $79.99 | $39.99 | 5 devices, 1 computer |
| DroidKit, Screen Unlock | One-time | $109.99 | $55.99 | 5 devices, 1 computer |
| DroidKit, FRP Bypass | 1 year | $79.99 | $39.99 | 5 devices, 1 computer |
| AnyTrans | One-time upgrade | $69.99 | $34.99 | 1 computer |
| AnyTrans family plan | One-time | $99.99 | $49.99 | 5 computers |
| FocuSee Standard | 1 year | $179.99 | $49.99 | 1 computer, 5 GB cloud |
Two pages are worth finding before you check out. The upgrade page converts an existing yearly plan into a one-time licence, and the family-plan page spreads a licence over five computers, which is how AnyDroid lands at $49.99 for five machines against a $109.99 list.
FocuSee, the screen recorder, is priced on its own site: $49.99 a year for Standard, $79.99 a year for Advanced with three computers and 3,600 AI credits, and $199.99 for an Advanced one-time licence covering up to five computers.
Students and teachers get the single best deal here. iMobie's education page gives a flat 30% off every product, claimed by entering an active institutional email address, which the page checks against a list of more than fifty approved domains. If your institution is not on that list, it invites you to contact support for a personal discount instead.
Business buyers are handled separately: the store routes orders above ten licences to a volume plan.
How the refund window works
This is the detail most worth reading before you pick a plan, because the window is tied to the billing term and not to the product. iMobie's refund policy sets 7 days on a 1-month subscription, 30 days on a quarterly one, and 60 days on both yearly subscriptions and one-time purchases.
The policy names the five situations it accepts: the wrong product, a duplicate or functionally identical purchase, an activation code that never arrived within 24 hours, an auto-renewal you were not expecting, and a technical problem left without a solution for five days.
It is equally plain about what it will not refund, and one line there is the practical one. A request is declined if you did not look at the product details or run the trial before buying, which is a direct argument for using the free scan first.
Do the free scan first. The trial installs, scans your phone and shows you a preview of exactly what it found. If the item you want is not in that preview, you have your answer before any money moves, and you stay inside the one condition the refund policy asks of you.
One mechanical note: a refunded order has its activation code deactivated, and you are asked to uninstall the software.
What works well, and what to check
What works well
- Every product installs free and previews what it can recover before you pay, per iMobie's store page.
- A 60-day money-back window on yearly and one-time licences, printed on each of those tiers.
- Transfer earns the steadiest praise: TheSweetBits found selective migration and file-by-file backup access that Apple's own tools do not provide.
- Ease of use rated 5 out of 5 by TechJury, with on-screen guides built into the workflow.
- A flat 30% education discount across the whole range, verified by institutional email.
- Upgrade and family-plan pages cut lifetime and multi-computer prices by roughly half against list.
- iMobie answers 95% of its negative Trustpilot reviews, typically within a week.
What to know before you buy
- Count computers, not devices. Most store tiers read “5 Devices / 1 PC” or “Unlimited Devices / 1 PC”; the family plan is the exception at five computers.
- Confirm your exact phone model and OS version is supported before paying. Compatibility is the theme that recurs most in one-star Trustpilot reviews from August and September 2026.
- Run the free scan first. The refund policy declines requests where the trial was not used.
- Choose the yearly or one-time tier if you want the long guarantee. A monthly plan carries only 7 days.
- Yearly plans renew automatically, so cancel ahead if the job is a one-off. An unexpected renewal is on the accepted-refund list.
- Keep recovery expectations measured. DataRescueTools recovered two of six deleted items on its test iPhone, and no recovery tool guarantees a result.
- On iOS, third-party messaging apps including WhatsApp sit outside PhoneRescue's scope. WhatsApp recovery is supported on Android only, per DataRescueTools.
Who iMobie suits best
A good fit if you recognise yourself here:
- You are locked out of a phone and want to try a fix on your own computer before paying a repair shop.
- You are moving between iPhone and Android and want to choose what travels rather than accept an all-or-nothing migration.
- You look after several family phones from one computer and can use a multi-device licence.
- You hold an institutional email address and can take the 30% education price.
Another tool may fit better if:
- A plain iPhone backup is all you need. Finder and iTunes already do that free, as TheSweetBits points out.
- Recovering deleted WhatsApp or Messenger threads on an iPhone is the entire job.
- You need one task done this week and will never reopen the program. Weigh a one-time purchase against the monthly tier's shorter 7-day window.
- You want a scored verdict from a large mainstream test lab. The detailed hands-on testing on this brand comes from specialist sites rather than the big publications.
Alternatives worth comparing
- Wondershare Dr.Fone. Named by DataRescueTools as one of the recovery tools that returned more of its deleted files. Prefer it if deleted-data recovery is the only reason you are buying.
- EaseUS MobiSaver. Also named in that same comparison, and a narrower recovery-only tool rather than a suite. Worth a look if you want one job done and nothing else.
- iMazing. Prefer it when iPhone backup, archiving and device management is the use case and you would rather licence a single product than a toolkit. Compare it directly against AnyTrans on the features you will actually open.
Is iMobie safe to use?
iMobie Inc. has published desktop mobile utilities since 2011, and its tools download directly from imobie.com. TheSweetBits reported stable performance with no crashes over extended use on Mac and Windows. Download from the official site rather than a mirror, since the free trial is the same installer as the paid version.
Does iMobie have a free trial?
Yes. Every product page carries a free download, and the store page states “try before you buy with a free trial”. The trial installs, scans your device and previews what it found; paying is what lets you export or apply the fix.
Can you get a refund from iMobie?
Yes, inside the window for your plan: 7 days on a 1-month subscription, 30 days on a quarterly one, and 60 days on yearly subscriptions and one-time purchases. The policy accepts wrong-product, duplicate, missing activation code, unexpected auto-renewal and unresolved technical claims, and declines requests made after the window or where the trial was never run.
Does iMobie offer a student discount?
Yes, a flat 30% off every product. You verify an active institutional email address on iMobie's education page, which checks it against more than fifty approved domains, then receive your discount by email. Institutions not on the list are told to contact support for a personal discount.
How many computers does one iMobie licence cover?
Usually one. Most store tiers are written as “5 Devices / 1 PC” or “Unlimited Devices / 1 PC”, so the device count describes the phones you can work on, not the machines you can install on. The family plan is the exception, covering five computers.
Can PhoneRescue recover WhatsApp messages?
On Android, yes; the Android edition has a dedicated WhatsApp recovery option. On iOS, DataRescueTools found that third-party messaging apps, WhatsApp included, are outside what PhoneRescue scans.
Bottom line
Our compiled estimate is 7.5 out of 10, held at medium confidence. The pricing, the refund terms and the education discount are all documented on iMobie's own pages, while the experiential side rests on three specialist hands-on tests rather than a deep body of lab data.
iMobie earns its price when the free scan has already shown you the result you came for. Start there, buy the yearly or one-time tier for the 60-day window, and confirm your exact device model is listed before you pay.
